Beginning at dawn where the dampness weighs down the light, to heat that dissipates moisture and dominates the day.

The strong winds that shift sands into summits and steer tracks into crevices. The mounting pressures that curve corners and carve stones.

Long shadows that extend before the sunset and coldness like a mirage that come at dusk.

‘Remote life’ is a collection of sculptures in ceramic, hand-built by Latika Nehra.
Executed in India, early 2022, the work embodies the topographic forces at work in a deserted, seemingly lifeless place.
Stationed amidst this remote land, the works reflect its extreme nature; behind its prosaic appearance exists life constantly shifting, transforming, and becoming.

Textured white stoneware, with a pale white/cream matte, unglazed finish. Hand built in coiling technique. Surface reveals fine sand stone. The color palate for this collection is neutral and minimal to emphasise the natural colors and textures of the clay. The works are nonfunctional decorative sculptures, a selected few could be used in a minimal dry flower setting.
Born in Jaipur, India, Latika is a self-taught ceramic artist who began experimenting with the medium in 2020. Her process is driven by an understanding of traditional techniques and then developing them within a contemporary interpretation.Academically trained in design, her work employs a comprehensive understanding of form and narrative. Primarily using the coiling technique she makes objects that are personable by modelling bodily gestures and natural textures. Form is dominant as the works are mostly kept unglazed. She continues her journey as a visual and ceramic artist working between Germany and India.
