With a profound love for literature, Mansha Chattwal’s current artistic endeavours revolve around the poignant theme of book burning, serving as a lens to examine both past and contemporary history. Her creations delve into the complexities of censorship, power dynamics, identity, memory, and loss, drawing inspiration from narratives of books, writers, and libraries. Through her research-driven approach, Mansha skilfully explores diverse storytelling perspectives, employing various materials to either enhance or juxtapose her thematic explorations. She aims for her work to be immersive, inviting viewers to delve beyond its visual allure and identify the literary sources that fuel her creativity.
Transitioning from a nearly two-decade-long career in advertising, Mansha’s artistic evolution is marked by a departure from the confines of commercial briefs towards a more exploratory, lucid, and experimental trajectory. Embracing a multi-dimensional approach, she experiments with different materials and techniques, manifesting her ideas through drawings, sculptures, artist books, and installations. Notable milestones in her artistic journey include her debut solo exhibition, “Symptomatic (mis)readings” at Blueprint12 (2022), along with participation in prominent art events such as Delhi Contemporary Art Week, Art Mumbai, and India Art Fair. Mansha’s works have also been featured in numerous group exhibitions across the globe, showcasing her distinctive artistic voice. Based in Mumbai, India, she continues to create thought-provoking artworks that resonate deeply with audiences.
