Ekta Singha

Ekta Singha, originally from Kolkata, India, and currently based in Vadodara, explores the complexities of personal identity and migration through her art, drawing inspiration from Mughal, Persian, and Rajput miniature paintings. Utilizing a variety of materials and techniques such as printing, painting, and embroidery on crochet and silk, Ekta creates metaphorical surfaces rich with personal references and historical documentation. Through her intricate use of burnt and handcrafted papers, as well as embroidered lines, she weaves together fragmented accounts of her own experiences, addressing themes of attachment, detachment, and the formation of new identities amidst turbulent times.
Ekta’s artistic journey began with a BVA in Painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, followed by an MVA with a specialization in Mural from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda, India. Her work has been recognized with various awards and she has participated in numerous exhibitions and residencies across India, showcasing her unique blend of traditional techniques with contemporary themes.
